This is a course on discrete mathematics as used in Computer Science. It’s\r\nonly a one-semester course, so there are a lot of topics that it doesn’t cover\r\nor doesn’t cover in much depth. But the hope is that this will give you a\r\nfoundation of skills that you can build on as you need to, and particularly\r\nto give you a bit of mathematical maturity—the basic understanding of\r\nwhat mathematics is and how mathematical definitions and proofs work. Yes and no. The human brain is not really designed to do formal mathematical\r\nreasoning, which is why most mathematics was invented in the last few\r\ncenturies and why even apparently simple things like learning how to count\r\nor add require years of training, usually done at an early age so the pain\r\nwill be forgotten later. But mathematical reasoning is very close to legal\r\nreasoning, which we do seem to be very good at.
