Sinopsis
Technology in policy discourses is frequently cited as pivotal for ameliorating the global ‘crisis’ in care, delivering positive outcomes, and is increasingly part of care provision and arrangements across the world. This Policy Press Short will explore how, in different national contexts, technology is being deployed to contribute to the sustainability of care relationships, arrangements and services, and the achievement of well- being outcomes for older people. Our contributors examine technology policy, practice and research evidence from five countries across Europe, Oceania, North America and Asia. The countries selected – Australia, Canada, England, Germany and Japan – all face challenges to the sustainability of care provision due to major demographic changes, such as increased longevity and falling fertility, amplifying demand for quality care services. In all the countries included, technology is increasingly being proposed as a potential means to address challenges related to the shortages in long- term care (LTC) provision, both in terms of resources and the care workforce. This book explores how these countries have integrated technology into their care systems and services, and examines evidence related to outcomes for older people, family carers and care provision.
