Climate change is an existential and systemic challenge of our time. The world is\r\nwitnessing an intensification of extreme events - such as prolonged droughts,\r\nunprecedented storms, shifting precipitation patterns, sea level rise – with increasing\r\npressure on ecosystems and human livelihoods. These phenomena highlight the\r\nurgent need for decisive global and national responses. Cabo Verde positions itself as\r\na proactive Small Island Developing State (SIDS), advancing integrated climate action\r\nthrough coherent national policies and strategic international partnerships.\r\nFor SIDS, and particularly Cabo Verde, climate risks are especially acute. The country’s\r\nInsularity, limited land area, geographical remoteness, and high dependence on\r\nclimate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, water and tourism, as well as\r\nheavy reliance on external energy sources, make the archipelago highly vulnerable to\r\nclimate disruptions.\r\nCabo Verde has been fully integrating the global climate agenda, anchoring its\r\ncommitments under the Paris Agreement. By becoming a party to the Paris\r\nAgreement, the country has committed to developing and communicating its\r\nNationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) as the main instrument for defining\r\nmitigation and adaptation strategies aligned with the goal of limiting global warming\r\nto less than 1.5 °C.
