E-book Public Space in Transition
This chapter includes a review of the international literature on public space,and it is divided into five sections. First, the definition and dimensions ofpublic space are reviewed to introduce the research topic and determine theboundaries of the research. In the second section, the changing nature ofpublic space is described through an analysis of the effects of societal shifts(e.g., economic, sociocultural and political) on public space. The next sectionspecificallyexaminestheconceptsofco-productionofpublicspaceandPOPS,which is a type of co-produced public space. Following an overview of theresearch topic, additional information is provided regarding the context ofrapid urbanisation and post-socialism. A research gap is identified at the endof the literature review, and it is described in the final section.
