With global energy demand on the rise, nuclear power — a low-carbon energy source for sustainable development— continues to play an important role in the energy mix of many countries. Global nuclear capacity is expected to
grow, resulting in an increased demand for Agency services to support nuclear infrastructure development. In 2023,there were 27 Member States considering, planning or implementing a new nuclear power programme. The Agency continued to provide support to them in building awareness of the commitments required for the decision making process and in developing the required infrastructure in line with the Milestones Approach. Nine Integrated Work Plan meetings were held to identify priority areas for Agency support for embarking countries.
