E-book Hong Kong in Brief
Hong Kong is a leading financial, trade and business centre. Although lacking in natural resources, its fabled harbour is one of the finest deep water ports in the world. Hardworking, entrepreneurial and well-educated people form the foundation of Hong Kong’s productivity and creativity. Upon the resumption of exercise of sovereignty over Hong Kong by the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) was established on 1 July 1997. The Basic Law is a constitutional document of the HKSAR which implements the principle of 'one country, two systems'. While matters of defence and foreign affairs remain the responsibility of the Central Authorities, the HKSAR enjoys a high degree of autonomy according to the Basic Law.
