The sun was about to rise in the east, shining upon a small beautiful village on the north side of Nurweda Village, Weda Sub-district, Central Halmahera Regency. The small village was
called Pulau Imam, a three-hectare village. Pulau literally meant ‘island’ dan Imam was an Islamic leader. Amidst the roosters’ crows, the sound of a man reciting Al Quran pierced the cool morning air. It was beautiful and comforting. The man was disciplined with his morning routine. He always performed salat subuh, the morning prayer, before the sun rose. On a makeshift prayer mat of banana leaves, he sat down and prayed. After that, he always recited Al Quran with his beautiful voice. The roosters often talk about him among themselves.
“Listen, friends, that Imam’s voice is so beautiful,” one of the rooster said.
