E-book Belize's Voluntary National Review for The Sustainable Development Goals
Belize has made significant development strides in the past decade. Its long-term development strategy, Horizon 2030, prescribes a pathway to increasing prosperity, eradicating poverty, improving social cohesion, caring for its natural resources, and securing peace and justice for all Belizeans. As a signatory to the United Nations Millennium Development Goal Declaration, the Government of Belize (GOB) committed formally in 2000 to pursuing and achieving the United Nations (UN) Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), a common set of goals and targets to bring all people up to minimum Pacific Ocanaribb acceptable standards of human development by 2015. The drafting of the 2013 MDG Report for Belize was supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in partnership with a Technical Working Group led by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. This process involved the Ministries with responsibilities for Health, Natural Resources, Human Development and Local Government, as well as the United Nations Country Team. The initiative updated Belize's progress on the MDGs, assessing the momentum for a final push to achieve the MDGs by 2015.Belize reconfirmed its commitment to these efforts by signing on to the United Nations Post 2015 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals.
